Glenn Benfell | Te Pou Matua

As a valued leader within the trust, Glenn brings a wealth of lived experience that directly shapes and strengthens it’s vision and operations. With over 20 years of service as a police officer, his dedication to community wellbeing is well established. This commitment is further demonstrated through his roles as chair of both school and kōhanga reo boards, and as a hāhi elder highlighting a lifelong focus on education, whānau support, and community development. Glenn currently works for Tuhourangi-Ngāti Wahiao through their enterprise Waimangu Volcanic Valley.

Glenn’s deep-rooted leadership, strategic insight, and strong relationships across Māori communities provide the board with a well-rounded and grounded perspective, contributing significantly to its overall impact and success. Complementing his practical experience, Glenn is a practitioner of contemporary/fine Māori Art and also holds a Bachelor in Social Science, along with diplomas in teaching, social work, workplace practice and Toi Māori, underscoring a solid foundation in both academic and applied fields.
